Intra-Oral Face Massage (Buccal Massage)

Intra-Oral Face Massage (Buccal Massage)

Buccal massage is an intra-oral facial massage, meaning it is performed both outside and inside the mouth. This advanced technique goes beyond traditional facial massages by targeting the deep, hidden layers of facial muscles that cannot be reached externally.

During an intra-oral session, I work inside the mouth wearing gloves, gently massaging and releasing tension in key facial muscles:
• The Masseter muscles (inside the cheeks, responsible for chewing and clenching)
• The pterygoid muscles (deep stabilizers of the jaw)
• The buccinator muscles (support the mid-face and help define the smile lines)

This deeply therapeutic massage not only relieves tightness but also promotes structural balance, facial symmetry, and a lifted, sculpted appearance.

Buccal massage is often recommended for people who are preparing for or have recently had their braces removed.
It can help create more space within the mouth, improve muscle flexibility, and ease any tension or tightness that develops during orthodontic treatment.

How It Works

By accessing the inner side of the jaw, Buccal massage helps release muscle knots and adhesions that cause clenching, discomfort, and tension.
It also works on the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding the muscles—which can become tight or restricted due to stress, posture, or lifestyle habits. Releasing these restrictions improves blood flow, oxygenation, and lymphatic drainage, restoring vitality to the face and body.
As the jaw muscles release, the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) moves more freely, reducing strain on the neck, shoulders, and spine. Clients often notice that their neck lengthens, shoulders drop, and the entire body feels lighter and more aligned after treatment.

Recommendations After an Intraoral (Transbuccal) Massage

1.Avoid excessive physical exertion – especially during the first few hours after the procedure, to prevent overstraining the facial muscles.
2. Stay well hydrated, as the massage may promote the release of toxins that need to be flushed out of the body through proper hydration.
3. Avoid consuming hot food and drinks in the first few hours after the massage to prevent irritation of the oral tissues, which may have been slightly sensitized during the treatment
